After “Yes I Can” and “350 South: An American Journey”, Dublin-based beActive returns with a new factual transmedia series about 3 journalists who will travel 15.000 kilometers and 10 countries in the Mahgreb & Middle Eastern region, following the path of the Arab Spring.

Taking off in Turkey’s megacity Istanbul, the “Road to Revolution” is going to cross some of the most tense and effervescent territories on the planet – Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Tiago Carrasco, João Henriques and João Fontes will be determined to finding out more about the lifestyle, culture and beliefs in those territories.

Two years ago, the same team of journalists embarked in a similar adventure, crossing the African continent by jeep, in 150 days, to arrive in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. In a time of European crisis, they escape routine once more, to learn about the different lifestyles in those countries, understand the causes of discontentment that led to ethnic and religious conflicts and to rediscover their recent history and the hopes and expectations of the younger generations.

Along the way, they will visit the Syrian refugee camps in Turkey, follow the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia in Jordan, spend some days in one of the toughest Palestinian settlements, get to know some of the families of Tunisian and Egyptian martyrs and get a glimpse of post-Gaddafi Lybia.

For a complete picture, the series won’t forget about art and culture, nightlife, intellectuals, musicians, filmmakers and painters, sports and daily life as it takes place, and more importantly, the personal stories of the people they will encounter on their trip.

Speaking for beActive, series producer Nuno Bernardo said: “at a time of crisis, and a new wave of revolutions taking place in the Arab world, “Road to Revolution” aims at showing different points of view of what is delivered to us by online and TV news. It’s about a better understanding of how and why revolutions take place and what remains or changes in the end. There won’t be any helicopters or airplanes. They will travel by land or sea, renting a car, taking public transportation and even hitchhiking, if necessary. It will definitely be a unique, authentic and unpredictable journey.”

Produced by beActive with the support of the Portuguese weekly “Sol” and Sportzone, the “Road to Revolution” doc series will feature updated travel videos, twice a week, on an official videoblog and “Sol’s” website. The information will be kept up-to-date, in real time, on social media.

For portuguese updates on the Road to Revolution like A Estrada da Revolução facebook page.

The series follows Round Towers Clondalkin Ladies GAA football club over the course of a historic season, and is directed by Irish director Mairtin de Barra.

The series, funded by The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, Setanta Sports and beActive looks at the lives both on and off the pitch of the female players from the West Dublin club as they juggle the Intermediate Championship with weddings, babies and emigration plans.

Speaking from the office in Dublin series producer Triona Campbell said, “This series is pure feel-good prime time TV. The women in question are inspirational and will be battling both on the pitch and in their real lives against the types of issues we are all facing today”.

Speaking for Setanta Sports Tony Whelan, Head of programming, said “We are delighted to be involved with beActive on this series and are very much looking forward to premiering on January 23rd”

The series marks yet another leap into factual series by beActive Ireland with Setanta Sports having aired last year the inspirational 4 part series Yes I Can also funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland which featured disabled people taking on extreme sports and hosted by Irish adventure Mark Pollock.

Irish audiences are also already able to have a glimpse of the new TV Show through the Internet. A prequel to the TV Episodes will be available on Youtube as well as small Webisodes and a behind the scenes documentary.
